Avenue Art

This was the scene at the Del Ray Arts Festival the other week-end.  Featuring art in many forms:
Cooking ... a pie contest.
" Here come da judge." (No, its the sheriff to taste test the many pies) ...
Fine arts.
Crafts from paper to fabric.
 Activities
Food
Music
And a most beautiful golden dragon winding through the crowd.
That's an art.  Coming Sunday at 2PM ... the Halloween Parade

Goose Neck

This is a goose neck gourd I bought last week.

I saved the seeds from last year's gourd and planted them. Here’s what happened.
IMG_2224
One seed grew …
IMG_2223
and grew up the boxwood …
IMG_2228
and grew over to the blue spruce …
IMG_2225
and had a gourd.

But gravity has straightened the neck.

PS. Is anyone else having issues with Blogger? I cannot load images in either the new or old editor. I've gone to the Windows Live Writer program as a work around ... but really, should that be necessary? Blogger Help is Blogger No Help.  Just a little rant :)

Painted Lady

I'm so pleased at the way my old painting has cleaned up! Thanks to Buchanan & Kugal in Old Town. Before she was a pale face in a dark sea of paint. I've had her on my walls for 40 years. Look at her now. In the same old frame.

You can see her rings and also the bad over painting some one back when did to her dress which we could not fix.
She's holding a book, but even with cropping I can't read the fine print.

The vase with forget me nots is visible with a river in the back round.
We think she dates to the late 1800's. The partial name of the painter is Felix Bra"ndel or auer or ander". There are several Fritzes working in the late 1800's who are German. Since this painting languished in my MIL attic for who knows how long and who knows where from (tho MIL was Austrian / FIL German) we will never know form whence she came.
Lovin' her on my wall.

What's with Blogger?

I'd post, but blogger has transformed and will not load photos! How annoying.

Iron Weed

Some flowers seen at Art on The Avenue. They bloom all year. But not too tasty. For more real blooms from around the world visit Today's Flowers # 113.

Art on the Avenue

Del Ray's arts extravaganza Art on the Avenue is Saturday, Oct, 2. Great for the kids. And free.

Well picture it here.
I have some great shots from last year but blogger is acting weird! Anyone else having a problem? You'll have to go to Art on the Avenue to see it for yourself!

For the adults among us visit Shirlington and the Oktoberfest noon to seven, $25 for a wristband to sample the brews.
Our friend Bill will have a tent showcasing his new, soon to open, Alexandria brewery Port City Brewery.

Well better late than never. This was last year.
