Foxey Loxey

Our handsome fox was hurt (by a car?) and was in our drive last Wednesday.
His front paw is injured. He sat with his friend the feral cat for a while.
He sat around in the sun for quite a while before heading off to the front yard.

We called an animal rehab guy, but he got here too late to see Foxey.  If you are local and see him please call Buck Taylor at 703.615.4812 or 703.440.0800.

Bear-ly

My son J goes to the gym really early in the morning. The week before Thanksgiving he was driving the hilly roads near Philly and saw a tiny white pile of fur in the road. He followed it in the car and then on foot. Finally it turned on its back and put paws up in surrender. It was a tiny thin dog. He was going to take it home, but passed a police car and surrendered it to the officer. It was taken to the shelter. The dog had a chip with name, address, age 7, purebred Toy Maltese. The shelter won't let finders adopt. My persistent  DIL called everyday for four weeks to check on the dog. "Oh yes "J", he's fine. We sent a registered letter." Finally "Oh the letter was returned." Well persistence pays. The little guy came home to live with Sam the rescued Labordoodle
and Dali the rescue cat.
Dali in the tree
Only 4.5 pounds, but he has added a pound in just a few days.
When his hair grows back he'll be a little fuzz ball.
When they said "Oh J" at the shelter we thought it was because he was checked in under the finder's name. Turns out my son and the foundling had the same name! Fate? Kismet? However the same name didn't fly. He's now named Bear. He's "Bear-ly" big enough to warrant the name but is certainly as fierce as a bear. He fearlessly rules Sam.

Just A Dusting

OK. Winter can be done now. But nooooo...today we're due for a "dusting" of snow. So far:
But the snow makes for good fox sighting. Here's the big guy in my neighbors yard last week.
With the snow on the ground you can see where he scaled the chain link fence.
And made his way across the yard...
I had just opened the front door, camera in hand, to take a s now picture when I sighted him as he crossed. He saw me and put on more speed before I could react. I went out and followed the tracks.
Behind the row of evergreens to the corner of the fence and back into my yard...
Past the shed and under the blue spruce...
Through the boxwood row and into the field...
 Down the path....
Back out to cross the field...
 Into the brush....
 And out....
Finally into deep cover where I could not follow. I could see the older tracks he had made on the way into the yards. He seems to have a routine path. The last snow I saw him playing in the snow in the field but he was too far away to get a good picture. Maybe next time.

Snow Days

Not all that much snow, but enough to close school for two days and have a two hour delay on Thursday. Coupled with MLK day it was a six day break for the kids.
The birds were flocking to the feeder.
Zen meditation
Finally back to school. They missed the fox playing in the snow today.
