Great estate sale this past week-end.
First on Friday I got "material" for $6. This had been made into curtains, but it was my favorite sheet pattern.
Really brand new. King and full sizes, both lined with plain white sheets. My little seam ripper made quick work of that while I watched March Madness. (Go VCU.) Into the laundry and on to a bed. SIX dollars people!!
On Sunday I went back for 1/2 price day and got some bargains.
Two boxes $3 ...
already on the laundry room shelf for flower supplies. Knew they'd be the perfect size.
A woven coverlet in poor condition $20, I'm thinking pillows or maybe a Christmas tree skirt? Great red and green color ...
Candle sticks with a charming etched design, one repaired but I don't care. $7.
Plus a blue glass canning jar for coffee on the counter, $4.
And I got someone else who was hesitating to give a good home to a lovely Flying Geese quilt for $125. Not my colors or I'd have taken it.
And from Goodwill ... PFS found an Altman poster, framed, $14.50. I baby sat from Altman once when we were at Penn State where he taught art. We have other original works by him. Think I'll paint the frame black. The color doesn't show here but it has nice subdued greens. Plus another unframed one even cheaper at $3.50.

Yard Sale Finds
On the way to the farm market last Saturday we stopped by a great yard sale. Too bad the kid golf clubs were gone, but we still got good buys. I spotted this box.
Here's what it contained.
That's like 12 cents a piece. Next I saw this for $5.
Who can't use an extra mirror? And the kids scored too.
$15. DIY now in progress on the skateboard decks.

Bedrooms
Here's the master bedroom, on the first floor. Before:
After:
We had the wallpaper stripped and painted with Behr Pewter Mug with white trim.
Left to right:
The dresser was Mom's, my Victorian marble top I've had from childhood, great grandfather's shaving stand, bedside chest-curb, ordinary new bed, drop leaf farm table from PA., framed pieces are all old rowing prints.

This table I bought from a radio ad in State College. It has been used as a dining room table and a computer table.

Pillow cover I made from old linen runner.

Old double weave coverlets on the bed and chair, my Mom's big mirror...was that ever fun to move from NJ! Plan de Paris through the door.

There is a sitting room connected with pocket doors. This room has not been painted. Highboy (thrift shop $125), flip top table from family, old bike is my son's 1st auction purchase...at 6 weeks old, framed items are all family pictures / documents.

The wash stand is a family piece.

Desk I bought at auction (when I was in high school), the window treatment came with the house. All the oriental rugs are old, this one is Afghan from PFS's former student/rug dealer, chair-curbside (see it here).
The chair is the "clothes horse" cleaned off for a party.
I love the gray walls...it some of these photos they show up bluer than in person...it is just a restful room.

Week-end Work
The mile long yard sale was Saturday. Just as the rain started I found these four harp back bent wood chairs ($20 for all four). Perfect for my daughter's dining room.
They came from a church hall originally.
I glued one leg, tightened one back piece and used my favorite restore product.

I had six cushions (on sale at the grocery store $1 each a few weeks ago) that I'd been saving for a good use.
I stitched on a length of ribbon for ties and there they were...all fixed up.
My SIL had two of these chairs languishing on the porch.

The seats were off so I got some black vinyl and the two extra cushions and recovered them.

Lookin' good.

And for my sister, I also used the restore on a small marble top dresser that my parent bought for $25, the first year they got married. It has been in the garage for three years, since the move from NJ. I love the signature I found on the bottom of the two small drawers. "John Schraer/Newark NJ." He must have cut the bottoms from the same piece of wood.

I took out the old silver cloth and relined the top drawer.
I cleaned the brasses with a salt and vinegar solution (shades of chem class) and polished them off with a thin coat of olive oil. There was actual detail of hearts on the door handle.

It looks great.
