Plan de Paris de Vestibule Chez Moi

Thanks to Meg at Pigtown Design I ordered the Plan de Paris from CSN World Globes.

I planned to put it in the powder room off the hall. But when it came the hall wall just spoke out and claimed it for its own. Emmet, the boy math whiz, helped me measure and we saw it was a perfect fit.

And oh la la...I got my map up today. Saturday I painted the walls a white/gray (Behr Quietude...just not upscale enough for designer brand paint) while I listened to the UVA/IU football game. Today I dug out my wall papering equipment (did I mention how much I hate to wall paper?) and got to work.

I tried snapping a line but it didn't work on this wall. The catch is that the wall curves. Luckily the wall is pretty regular top to bottom so I hung 6" from the ceiling. Starting from the most visible right hand edge I worked the rows top to bottom.

Last piece.

I think it worked out pretty well. I cut some lath with mitered corners and painted it the darker gray (Behr Pewter Mug) I have in the bedroom. With the help of liquid nail It frames out the map.

We can find Rue De Platre (right in the middle below) and the building our friend lived in when she worked in Paris. Our daughter worked summers in Paris and lived in the maids' chambre, sur le cinquieme etage. That's where we stayed on many trips to Paris.

The whole thing looks great. I can see it from the family room and from bed.
C'est magnifique.

  5. That curve had been bothering me ever since we moved in...over 2 years! It was so bare. but I love the curve. I thought about hanging a quilt but this is so much better.
